Welcome to 2005

Wow it has been forever since I've posted. So much has happened sine last year. Ben and I have moved from our old Single apartment to a 1 bedroom on the Westside, but it has the WORST kitchen ever. So we are working on some improvements there. We had our first meal there that I cooked last night, really gourmet too, tuna melts :) Anyhow, just got back about a week ago from a trip to Minneapolis. Haven't been back in about 3 years now, and it was great to hit up a lot of our old Uptown haunts. My favorites are listed below, along with the reasons why. I'm hoping we can start keeping this updated regularly. Make sure you leave me a comment, as far as I know, nobody reads this thing anyhow:

Favorite All Time Breakfast Joint: And this is including everywhere I have been in life, Sobas on Lyndale in Minneapolis. You just can't go wrong with a place who has had consistently delicious breakfast for over 5 years now. The Huevos, which is what I always order, has slightly garlicky delicious black beans, flour tortilla, melted cheddar cheese, and is topped with 2 over easy eggs. Although the last time I had this the eggs could have been a little runnier (personal pref) they were topped with Sobas salsa and wonderfully fresh guacamole. This dish is served with their herbed house potatoes. When dining at Sobas might I suggest one of their Lemon Blueberry muffins as a "starter". They are out of this world, and I'm still trying to figure out how to make these lovely morsels. Their coffee is coffee-shop quality (Dunn Bros) and their OJ is fresh squeezed. Ohhh yea. P.S. They normally have HUGE waits on the weekends, and may take call aheads, I suggest trying. Sobas is located at 2558 Lyndale Avenu eSouth, Minneaplolis, MN 612.871.6631.

Another restaurant I just have to mention is Kinh-Do, located on Hennepin Avenue in Uptown, next door to Saint Sabrina's Parlour in Purgatory. The most amazing PHO I have ever had, a vietnamese soup with noodles, sliced chicken or beef, cilantro, onions, and amazing Asian chicken broth! I have to say I love the to-do that you get with Pho. Oh the side comes a container of chili sauce (to spice things up), hoisin (for a silky richness and sweetness) and some beansprouts (for crunch) and Thai Basil.....add as much or as little as you like. We always have to start our meal at Kihn-Do with their fried cream cheese wontons, they are outstanding some of the best I have ever had :) Check them out. Kinh-Do has that small-town feel in the middle of Uptown, and the prices make it the type of place you can go for dinner anytime. This soup (PHO) is especially wonderful when you are feeling under the weather, or if the weather in MN is getting to you.

That's enough babbling for now, enjoy! :) Shawn
